Private MRI Scan Cost UK: Prices Compared
Private MRI scan prices in the UK vary according to the provider, the type of scan, the timing of the appointment, the location, and whether the scan is a dedicated MRI of a specific body area or a whole-body screening MRI. This page compares current pricing from providers in our verified dataset, including Vista Health, Nuffield Health and Prenuvo.
Based on the data we have checked, a conventional private MRI scan starts from £249.

Vista Health MRI prices

See the Vista Health provider page and the Vista Health Gold Full Body MRI package for more details.
Dedicated MRI vs whole-body MRI
A dedicated MRI scan focuses on a specific body area — for example the head, spine, abdomen or pelvis — and is typically requested to investigate a particular symptom or concern. A whole-body MRI screening service scans multiple areas in a single session and is marketed as a preventative or screening scan rather than a targeted diagnostic investigation.
The two are not equivalent. A whole-body screening MRI is not the same as a conventional single-area diagnostic MRI, and the price reflects a different scope and purpose. We do not provide clinical advice on which type of scan is medically appropriate — speak to a qualified clinician if you are unsure.
For a comparison of whole-body MRI packages, see our full-body MRI page.
Body areas covered by dedicated MRI
Our currently verified data includes dedicated MRI services from Vista Health covering the following body areas. Each relationship is supported by a first-party Vista Health page for that dedicated MRI service.
- Brain
- Spine
- Abdomen
- Pelvis
We do not infer additional body areas from whole-body MRI coverage. Body-area landing pages will be added as more verified data becomes available.
Referral requirements
Referral requirements differ between providers in our dataset:
- Vista Health permits self-referral — you can book an MRI scan without a GP referral.
- Nuffield Health requires an appropriate medical referral before an MRI scan can be carried out.
These requirements reflect the providers currently in our dataset and should not be generalised to all UK MRI providers.
How we compare MRI prices
WhatHealthCheck records publicly available provider pricing and service information. For each imaging service, we retain the source URL and the date the information was checked, and we assign a verification status based on whether the facts are supported by first-party provider evidence.
We do not include every UK MRI provider, and we do not receive a commission from every provider listed. Prices were checked in October 2026 and can change — always confirm the current price on the provider's website before booking.
