How we compare health checks
Comparing private health checks isn't as straightforward as comparing prices. Two services may both call themselves comprehensive health checks while testing for very different things.
That's why What Health Check compares services using a consistent structure.
What we compare
Tests and biomarkers
What is actually being measured or investigated.
Screening technology
Imaging, ECGs, body composition analysis and other diagnostic or screening technologies.
Clinical involvement
Whether doctors, nurses or other qualified healthcare professionals are involved and at what stages.
The consultation
What happens before and during the assessment.
Results
How results are delivered, explained and presented.
Follow-up
What happens if something unusual is identified and what support is included afterwards.
Locations and accessibility
Where assessments are available and how straightforward they are to book.
Price and value
Not simply which service is cheapest, but what the customer receives for the price.
We standardise the information
Providers frequently use different terminology for similar tests and services. What Health Check translates provider information into a common structure to make comparisons easier.
Where we cannot reliably establish whether something is included, we say so rather than guess.
First-hand reviews
What Health Check intends to conduct its own first-hand reviews of health checks.
Where possible, a member of the team will experience the process as a customer would – from booking and pre-appointment information through the assessment, results and follow-up.
If a provider supplies a complimentary assessment for review, this will be clearly disclosed. Providing a free assessment does not give the provider approval over the review or guarantee favourable coverage.
Keeping information current
Packages, tests and prices change, so information is reviewed regularly and verification and review dates are displayed where appropriate.
